Temporary lane closure on N2 at Sarnia Road Bridge

Durban, 27 August 2024 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) would like to notify motorists of the temporary road closure on the Sarnia
Road Bridge on N2 northbound and southbound scheduled for 28 and 29 August 2024 between 09h00 and 15h00.

Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow for possible extra travel time.

Lane restrictions and speed calming measures at N2 Beacon Way intersection in Plettenberg Bay

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Lane restrictions and speed calming measures at N2 Beacon Way intersection in Plettenberg Bay

Western Cape, 27 August 2024 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced that traffic restrictions are now in place for construction work at the Beacon Way Intersection on the N2 in Plettenberg Bay, which started in April 2024.

Construction work on the intersection will significantly increase work on the N2 as well. In the interest of road safety, including the safety of the construction team, additional lane restrictions are being implemented at this intersection which will likely increase traffic congestion in the area.

Temporary speed restriction devices will be positioned on the N2 to reduce travelling speeds, while turning into Beacon Way from Knysna will also be restricted.

Motorists are therefore requested to plan their trips accordingly and use alternative routes wherever possible.

Alternative Routes

  • Road users going to Plettenberg Bay should use the Marine Way entrance to move in and out.
  • Heavy motor vehicles that supply the mall in Beacon Way should use Marine Drive for deliveries.

All road users are requested to be mindful of the impact of the construction, to reduce speed and obey temporary signage when travelling through the construction area. SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused.

N3 closure to facilitate blasting between Ashburton and Market Road

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

N3 closure to facilitate blasting between Ashburton and Market Road

Pietermaritzburg, 24 August 2024 – Part of the N3 will be fully closed on 29 August 2024 between 14h30 and 15h00 to facilitate blasting next to the existing Ashburton Overpass Bridge, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced.

“The N3 closure will take place between the Ashburton and Market Road Interchanges. Closures will also be necessary on Pope Ellis Drive from R103 intersection Interchange, which is in the vicinity of the blasting activities,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s Eastern Region Project Manager.

Traffic accommodation team, with the assistance of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), will monitor the diversion of traffic during the closure.

The full road closure will take place as follows:

29 August 2024 (Thursday):
14h30:                Close N3 and secondary road and blast.
14h30 to 14h55: Clean up any debris on all roads.
14h55 to 15h00: Final Road Safety Inspection
15h00:                Re-open N3 and secondary road for all vehicles.

The R103 will be available as an alternative route during the blast. Substantial delays are, however, likely as the R103 is unable to handle the same volume of traffic as the N3.

The closure may need to be adjusted depending on weather conditions on the day. If that happens, a second notice with information of the new time will be issued.

“We ask motorists to be patient during the closure and to plan and adjust their trips, especially their leaving times, to accommodate the closure while still adhering to speed limits. SANRAL apologies to the motoring public for any inconvenience caused and thanks them for their patience during the ongoing road construction,” said Lowe.

SANRAL advises caution on N2, Gqeberha after tidal flood deposits rock debris on highway

Gqeberha, 23 August 2024 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has advised motorists that the N2 highway between John Tallant and Settlers Way in Gqeberha is now closed to traffic.

The decision was made after the city experienced tidal flooding for the second consecutive day this week.

Rock debris from the ocean has necessitated the closure and traffic is being diverted via John Tallant Road in Deal Party from the N2. Motorists are advised to obey instructions from traffic officials to avoid serious damage to their vehicles.

“We appeal to motorists to cooperate with traffic officials, and follow diversions when they deem them necessary, for their own safety. The road maintenance team will do everything in their power to ensure all obstacles are cleared and will determine when it is safe to reopen,” said Mbulelo Peterson, Regional Manager for SANRAL’s Southern Region.

Temporary closure of N2 into Gqeberha due to high waves and debris

Traffic Advisory

Temporary closure of N2 into Gqeberha due to high waves and debris

Gqeberha, 22 August 2024 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) advises all road users to exercise caution and reduce speed when approaching Gqeberha from Bluewater Bay on the N2 highway. The road has been temporarily closed and traffic is being redirected via John Tallant Bridge through Deal Party.

This temporary closure is due to rising tides, which have caused rock debris to be deposited onto the N2 highway. SANRAL’s maintenance teams are on standby and will begin clearing the debris once the rough water conditions subside.

“We urge motorists to remain cautious and reduce their speed while using the alternative route,” said Mr. Mbulelo Peterson, Regional Manager for SANRAL’s Southern Region.

N3 closure to facilitate blasting activities at the Ashburton and Lynnfield Interchanges

TRAFFIC ADVISORY

N3 closure to facilitate blasting activities at the Ashburton and Lynnfield Interchanges

Pietermaritzburg, 22 August 2024 – The N3 will be fully closed for thirty minutes on 27 August 2024 between 14h30 and 15h00 to facilitate blasting next to the N3 at Ashburton and Lynnfield (Lion Park) Interchanges, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has announced.

This work will be undertaken as part of the N3 Upgrade Projects from Lynnfield Interchange to Gladys Manzi Road upgrades.

“The N3 closure will take place between the Umlaas Road and Market Road Interchanges. Closures will also be necessary on the R103 at Lynnfield Interchange and Pope Ellis Drive at Ashburton Interchange in the vicinity of the blasting activities,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s Eastern Region Project Manager.

Our traffic accommodation team, with the assistance of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), will monitor the diversion of traffic during the closure.

The full road closure will take place as follows:

27 August 2024, Tuesday
14h30 to 14h45 – Close N3 at Umlaas Road and Market Road, R103 at Lynnfield Interchange and secondary road and blast.
14h45 to 15h00 – Clean up any debris on all roads.
15h00 – Reopen N3, R103 and secondary road for all vehicles.

“As one of the blasts occurs on the R103 in close proximity to the N3 Lynnfield interchange, there is no alternative route on which to divert traffic. A 30-minute delay will be inevitable as both the R103 and N3 will both be closed for the duration of the blast and any clearing of debris necessary,” said Lowe.

The closure may need to be adjusted depending on weather conditions on the day. If that happens, a second notice with information about the new time and date will be issued.

“Motorists are urged to plan and adjust their routes to avoid reaching the closure between the advertised times. They are further urged to remain patient during the closure and follow the directions of the traffic enforcement officials. SANRAL apologises for any inconvenience caused and appreciates the public’s patience during the ongoing major road enhancements.” said Lowe.
