SANRAL TO OPEN PROVINCIAL OFFICES

Pretoria, 23 February 2024 – In line with its strategic decision to move the organisation from a regional-office based model to a provincial-office based one, the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) has embarked on a process to open offices across the country’s nine provinces.

According to SANRAL’s Chief Executive Officer, Reginald Demana, opening provincial offices will allow the roads agency to better enhance its stakeholder engagement endeavours with the various provinces and municipalities that it serves.

“In terms of the SANRAL Act of 1998, which points out our distinct mandate to finance, improve, manage and maintain the country’s national road network, we have increased the number of roads that have been transferred to SANRAL from provinces in recent months. Provincialising our offices will make it easier for us to get closer to our road network in the various provinces,” said Demana.

The SANRAL provincial offices will be in the following towns:

  • Gauteng, Pretoria
  • Western Cape, Cape Town
  • Eastern Cape, Gqeberha
  • KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg
  • North West, Mahikeng
  • Mpumalanga, Mbombela
  • Limpopo, Polokwane
  • Free State, Mangaung, and
  • Northern Cape, Kimberley.

SANRAL is in the process of procuring office space for offices where it previously did not have presence.

With effect from the beginning of this year, SANRAL also embarked on a process to appoint the following Provincial Heads:

  • Gauteng, Mr Progress Hlahla (formerly Regional Manager for the Northern Region, which comprised of Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga and Limpopo provinces)
  • Western Cape, Mr Randall Cable (formerly Regional Manager of Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces)
  • Eastern Cape, Mr Mbulelo Peterson (formerly Regional Manager of the Southern Region, which comprised of the Eastern Cape Province)
  • KwaZulu-Natal, Mr Dudley Mbambo (formerly Acting Regional Manager of the Eastern Region, which comprised of KwaZulu-Natal and Free State provinces)
  • North West, Ms Mirriam Mosia
  • Mpumalanga, Ms Mabuyi Mhlanga
  • Limpopo, Mr Madoda Mthembu
  • Free State, Ms Marilize Nel-Verwey, and
  • Northern Cape, Mr Emile du Preez.

The former regional managers will ensure a smooth handover process while also gradually transitioning in their respective provinces into provincial managers.

“The appointments of the Provincial Heads followed a very rigorous process to identify suitably qualified and well experienced candidates to occupy these important strategic positions within the SANRAL leadership structure. We have ensured that we have the right mix of expertise, leadership, and passion to take SANRAL to new heights, and we wish them all the best in their new roles,” added Demana.
