TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Full Closure of Meadway Road to accommodate placement of beams on the Sterkspruit Bridge near the N3 Peacevale Interchange

Durban, 05 March 2025 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) advises road users of the full closure of Meadway Road from the Sterkspruit Bridge on Saturday, 08 March 2025, between 05h45 and 15h15, to facilitate the placement of concrete bridge beams on the Sterkspruit Bridge as part of the N3 Section 2 Realignment Project.

The Meadway Road closure will take place between the northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp of the Peacevale Interchange.

“Internal traffic accommodation teams, with the assistance of the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), will be deployed to manage and monitor the diversion of traffic during the closure” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s Eastern Region Geometrics Specialist Engineer.

Road closure details are as follows:

Saturday, 08 March 2025

05:45 to 06:00 – Close Meadway Road.

06:00 to 15:00 – Placement of Concrete Beams.

15:00 to 15:15 – Open Meadway Road.

Closures on Meadway Road at the Peacevale Interchange:

  • N3 Northbound (Pietermaritzburg-bound) Off-Ramp to Cliffdale and Sterk spruit – the right turn access to Meadway Road will be closed. The left turn access to Sterkspruit Road will remain open.
  • N3 Southbound (Durban-bound) On-Ramp from Peacevale and Drummond will remain open. Access from Sterkspruit Road will be closed before the Sterkspruit Bridge. Vehicles can proceed to the N3 via Cliffdale Road or via Hammarsdale.

The closure schedule may be adjusted depending on weather conditions. If any changes are required, a follow-up notice with updated timing will be issued.

“We appeal to motorists to exercise patience during the road closure and to plan and adjust their routes accordingly while complying with speed limits. SANRAL apologies to the motoring public for any inconvenience caused and thanks them for their patience during road construction,” said Lowe.
