CONTRACT SANRAL R.021-020-2023/9: Temporary Lane Closures on the R21, Olifantsfontein, Gauteng

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) wishes to inform road users of the temporary lane closure of the two slow lanes on the National Road R21 Section 2 Northbound (km 0.3) in Olifantsfontein, due to the rehabilitation of the sinkhole. These closures are necessary to facilitate the rehabilitation, and road repair thereafter.
Closure Details:
- Date: 10 October 2025 to 28 February 2026
- Location: R21 Section 2 Northbound km 0.3
- Duration: 5 months
- Closure Lengths: The closure lengths of the two slow lanes on the R21 Northbound (towards Pretoria) may vary but should not exceed 3 km unless required for safety reasons.
“We advise road users to plan their trips accordingly during this essential sinkhole rehabilitation, adhere to the traffic accommodation signage and the flag persons advanced warnings. It is not only for your own safety but, also that of the construction personnel on site.” said Progress Hlahla, SANRAL’s Provincial Head for Gauteng.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES THAT CAN BE TAKEN INCLUDE THE M57 AND THE M18, AS SHOWN BELOW.
