FOR THE SLOPE STABILISATION ON NATIONAL ROUTE 2 SECTION 13
Eastern Cape, 17 February 2026: The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) would like to notify road users that the National road 2, Section 13 has been reduced to a single lane for a distance of 2.4km, from km 41.1 to km 43.5 in the vicinity of the Stone Crescent Hotel, within the Makhanda Municipality, Eastern Cape Province. This reduction to a single lane is because of construction works. The project completion date is the 25th of June 2027. Stop/Go operations are in place with a waiting period of approximately 10 minutes, with a period of 16 months.
Motorists travelling between Gqeberha and KuGompo City are advised to use the R72 as an alternative route.
“Motorists are requested to plan their trips accordingly, consider alternative routes and to use caution when making use of the roads,” said Mbulelo Peterson, SANRAL’s Eastern Cape Provincial Head.
