24 July 2026, North West – This notification serves to inform the public and affected stakeholders of a planned temporary road closure on the R511 at the Pienaars River Bridge to facilitate the installation of precast concrete beams forming part of the pedestrian walkway construction.
The works involve the installation of three (3) precast concrete beams onto two bridge piers and two bridge abutments. “Due to the restricted width of the existing road reserve and limited working space available at the bridge, it is necessary to temporarily close the road to ensure the safety of road users and construction personnel” said Mirriam Ramoba, SANRAL provincial head for North West.
Route Affected: R511 Section 3 at Pienaars River Bridge (approximately 69km north of Brits and 73km south of Thabazimbi)
Closure Date: Saturday, 25 July 2026
Closure Period: 07:00 to 17:00
Type of Closure: Full Road Closure
The closure will affect all traffic travelling between:
- Brits and Thabazimbi
- North West Province and Limpopo Province via the R511
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and make use of the designated alternative routes.

Long Distance Traffic
The following alternative routes are recommended:
- R510 via the N4
- R516 via the N4
Local Traffic and Farming Communities
The following local gravel roads may be utilized where suitable:
- Assen – Leeupoort Gravel Road
- Atlanta – Slachtkraal Gravel Road
