ISILO, MISUZULU KAZWELITHINI TO LEAD A HISTORIC LAUNCH OF ISANDLWANA ROAD UPGRADE PROJECT P372

Nquthu, 12 March 2025 – As guided by His Majesty, ISILO Misuzulu kaZwelithini an integrated approach involving the Offices of the King, the National Department of Transport, KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport and the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL), has been adopted to ensure a successful symbolic sod-turning ceremony paving the way for the beginning of the upgrade of Isandlwana main road P372.

Members of the media are invited to attend this historic launch scheduled as follows

Date: 14 March 2025

Time: 10:00 – 15:00

Venue: Isandlwana Battlefield Heritage Site, KwaZulu-Natal

His Majesty King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini will preside over the sod-turning ceremony and deliver a keynote address.

The ceremony will mark the formal commencement of construction, reinforcing the significance of this intergovernmental partnership aimed at driving infrastructure development for rural communities in the land under Ingonyama Trust.

The Provincial Route P372 upgrade will transform a 31 km gravel road in the Nquthu Local Municipality, within the uMzinyathi District Municipality, into an all-weather surfaced road. This route plays a vital role in providing access to local communities and serves as the only road leading to the Isandlwana Battlefield Heritage Site, an important historical and tourism landmark.

Importantly, this project forms part of the Stimulus Package (SIP26), gazetted by President Cyril Ramaphosa. It is guided by a Memorandum of Agreement between SANRAL and KZN DoT, entrusting SANRAL with the project’s implementation.

Once completed, the upgraded road will stimulate tourism, improve mobility, enhance road safety—especially in adverse weather conditions—and strengthen economic ties between Isandlwana, the Nquthu Central Business District, and surrounding communities.
