A | EB Cloete incl. N2 North & N3 West |
Limited space for expansion of the EB Cloete Interchange will see this project feature a spectacular arch that will support the N3 carriageway as well as the fly-over directional ramps. The arch will resonate with the arch theme of the Moses Mabhida Stadium and will also be an iconic landmark as one enters Durban on the N3. | 3 | 6 |
|
B | Westville Viaduct / Paradise Valley |
This project features the first ever network arch bridge to be constructed in South Africa. The structure allows the bridge to span across the entire N3 without any support piers, thereby creating space for additional lanes. | 5 | 5 |
|
C | Paradise Valley / Mariannhill Toll Plaza |
This project will see additional lanes and upgrading of interchanges, including the Richmond Road Interchange upgrade which requires a 300m overpass which will add a third level to the existing diamond type interchange. | 3 | 5-6 |
|
D | Mariannhill Toll Plaza / Key Ridge |
The project will entail approximately 11kms of N3 being widened into a 10-lane dual carriageway. | 3 | 5 |
|
E | Hammarsdale Interchange |
The existing simple diamond interchange is being upgraded to a partial clover leaf, free-flow interchange, which includes the construction of a new bridge, and six new on and off ramps to accommodate increased volume of traffic resulting from the development of the area as a distribution node for freight logistics companies. | - | - |
|
F | Hammarsdale / Cato Ridge |
The Cato Ridge rail bridge will be realigned since the existing pier position conflicts with the upgrade widening. The realigned bridge will have to be built next to the existing bridge which be demolished once the new bridge is completed. A new interchange at D12 will be built as part of eThekwini’s Local Area Plan. Cato Ridge is part of a major metropolitan industrial growth node by virtue of its location on the strategic N3 logistics corridor (SIP2). | 3 | 5 |

*While this is the maximum number of lanes for the respective section, it does not necessarily mean this will be consistent through the entire section.
