SMMEs get training

The development of small-, mediumand micro-enterprises (SMMEs) forms part of SANRAL’s broader socioeconomic development strategy and the agency always looks for ways to empower local communities to enjoy the long-term benefits of SANRAL projects.

On the Moloto Road project, a total of 203 SMMEs have received training to better equip them to bid for tenders. SANRAL has observed that local SMMEs have little exposure to the tendering process, which places them at a disadvantage when responding to bids.

The SANRAL training covered quality in construction, contracting and documentation, team management, precast-concrete kerbing, brick paving, basic tendering processes and entrepreneurial skills.

So far, the feedback has been positive for both the accredited and non-accredited training and the agency will continue to champion this initiative to empower more local businesses.
