Construction of the N1 Ring Road in Polokwane is well under way. Worth approximately R700m, the project is a pivotal part of the ongoing major upgrade and development of the N1 in Polokwane, led by the South African National Roads Agency.
SANRAL started construction on section 29 of the ring road project in January 2016 and will continue for the next 30 months, until July 2018.
Following the November 2016 demolition of the old “Hotel” bridge, which linked the R101 and the Protea Hotel, the latest major milestone in this project is the pouring of the bridge deck on the R37 interchange, which was completed in February.
Outside the erection of major structures, normal roadworks will continue along the route and SANRAL will communicate all project updates beforehand through
the media. Notification will include scheduled traffic deviations and road closures, stop-and-gos and traffic alerts.
The agency understands the importance of the road as an economic artery and a gateway to the rest of Africa. This route is also strategically critical for the South African region and SADC. As such, we will continue to invest in building high-quality, safer roads for all our road users.
