munawwara mouradi

2nd year civil engineering at university of kwazulu-natal

Munawwara joins 24 students in the agency's Eastern Region to be awarded a SANRAL bursary in 2017.

WHAT DREW YOU TO CIVIL ENGINEERING?

Growth, innovation and a passion for helping surrounding communities. I'm also excited about the prospects that await me in this traditionally male-dominated career.

WHAT DOES YOUR SANRAL BURSARY COVER?

The bursary covers my tuition and travelling costs and even provides me with a textbook allowance and a monthly living allowance. I heard about SANRAL's bursaries at a career fair that was hosted at UKZN. Being a recipient has given me peace of mind and I am able to study hard with no financial worries. I am really grateful.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE MODULE?

I really enjoy the materials science module, which includes performing tests on certain materials, as well as creating concrete. Engineering surveying is also interesting, because we go out and observe surrounding locations. We examine structures and learn about the different components and forces used in constructing them.

WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE?

I'm hard-working and I have a strong work ethic, but I must admit that time management has been a major challenge. Juggling every aspect of life while trying to excel in my studies is hard, but I am determined to achieve good results.

FUTURE PLANS?

Once I've completed my studies, I hope to land a senior position at an established civil engineering company. I would also like to open my own someday.
