uMnambithi, 24 August 2026 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) advises motorists of periodic stop/go operation for construction activities that would be taking place along N11 at various locations detailed below.
“The notification is a result of high-speed traffic volumes experienced within the construction parameters and the work shall be undertaken to improve on safety during the construction period. The contract commenced on 25th May 2026 and is estimated to be completed by 24th June 2029. The Contractor has begun with the construction of various temporary deviations along the N11 route thus far,” said Trevor Zumani, SANRAL’s KwaZulu-Natal Project Manager.
The scope of works will entail the installation of temporary rumble strips expected to commence on 01st September 2026 for an estimated period of 7 (seven) days, 07 September 2026 at the following locations on the N11,section 2:
- Km 45+000 and Km 42+000 Northbound and Southbound
- Km 34+000 and Km 32+000 Northbound and Southbound
- Km 35+000 and Km 33+000 Northbound and Southbound
- Km 40+000 and Km 39+000 Northbound and Southbound
The stop/go operation will entail half-width construction in each direction of traffic flow and shall be swopped onto the opposite direction to complete the section of work. The estimated waiting periods are:
- Peak hours: 15 to 30 minutes
- Off-peak hours: 10 to 15 minutes
“SANRAL appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as it undertakes this vital road safety feature of temporary calming measures. We appeal to road users to note and comply with the advance warning signs and speed restrictions when travelling through the construction work zones”, added Zumani.
