4 August 2026, Limpopo – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) will resume with construction of the R510 national road from the North West/Limpopo provincial border through Northam to Bierspruit in Limpopo Province.
The project was left unfinished after the previous contractor abandoned site in late 2024. The new contract was awarded to Lebaka Construction as the appointed contractor and to Mariswe (Pty) Ltd as a supervision consultant at a total value of R339 million. The project will start in October this year after a two-month mobilisation period between August and the end of September, and it is anticipated to be completed on 30 November 2027.
The mobilisation period, which has already started, is the period in which planning and initial training of labour and small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) will take place.
“The scope of work that will be undertaken in the construction includes the capacity improvement of the R510 national road, which will provide passing and climbing lanes, surfaced shoulders, a four-lane cross section towards Northam on both approaches to the town and drainage structures,” said Madoda Mthembu, SANRAL’s Provincial Head for the Limpopo Province.
